My mother always said that if you haven't got anything good to say about someone, don't say anything at all.
But what if you are trying to save fellow business owners money by pointing out a fact that a certain business is more expensive and you can get the same products cheaper by shopping elsewhere?
I rather coarsely told someone to get there printing done through me and not to go to Prontaprint in Bishops Stortford unless they 'wanted to pay over the odds'. Lots of other business owners were saying 'go to Prontaprint' but I have done a price check on lots and lots of products and I can source EVERYTHING they offer at a cheaper price. Everything! Think on that.
I was at a networking meeting a few months back and was talking to a local clothing business who said that they sell some of their stuff through Prontaprint (here in shown as PP), but PP push the price down so that they actually make very little by selling through PP, only to see that PP whack a great big mark up on the resell value.
That doesn't seem very fair now does it?
No. It does not.
So, what happens next? Well the lady that run PP in Stortford contacted me via messenger and said 'please don't say such negative things about our business as I would never dream about being negative about other peoples business'.
Okay, I hold my hands up. That was not a good move on my part. I apologised and said in response 'You can't deny that you are the more expensive option for people to get their printing done... I will remove my comment from the post'
She didn't have any come back on my statement of fact. I mean, how could she?
Maybe if they charged a more reasonable price to their customers, I wouldn't have felt the need to stop someone making an unwise business decision.
What do you think?
